My name is Jim MacMillan and I have been living in the Lakes Region
of New Hampshire with my family since 1980.
I have been involved in printing most of my life, working in screen print
and offset companies early on, and teaching high school photography and printing classes.
In that time, the digital imaging revolution began to unfold. Since I had also been a photographer for almost the same amount of time as my working career, the two elements meshed together well. I began photographing friends and students weddings using a film camera. When the digital age brought change to professional cameras as well, I also followed the trend.
After leaving teaching, I returned to the printing industry, this time to work in digital imaging for Vutek, a provider of large format digital inkjet printers. This career took me all over the world as a trainer and technical support person for companies purchasing Vutek equipment. This opportunity also yielded many panoramas from those destinations which can be scene in the "Other Vistas" page on this web site.
All during these years, I also ran Won By One Design. Most of the focus was on panoramas and wedding photography, but other offerings soon became available. Added to the list of products was "Graphic Services" for banner and signage displays as well as "Family Photo Collage" and "Image Restoration". Most recently," Photoshop Lessons" and" Using Your Digital Camera" were added to help make users of these technologies more informed and productive.
Because of the beautiful scenery that the Lakes Region offers, with its many streams, lakes and mountains, it seemed like a good place to start documenting photographically. My first panorama was captured in an attempt to gather an entire scene of fall colors in September, 2001. But how do you take many pictures and make them into one image? Photoshop of course! I figured out just how to blend the multiple images to make one picture that is like no other.
Since then,I find myself busy trying to capture just the right lighting and camera angle to make unique panoramas of almost every lake or waterway in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and beyond. And although there are many offerings within this web site as well as other services, the panoramas remain as my favorite art form.
Each image is actually a series of pictures carefully blended together to make a single panorama. All of the 40x10" matted panoramas are made up of at least 8 images and some as many as 20! This exacting work is offered to our customers with the pledge of uniqueness, color accuracy and longevity. The amount of time in color correction and image matching cannot be simply achieved by any software automation... It is much more than a craft. This process takes many hours to produce just the right image worthy of production.
